I don't know, TPM got a lot of bashing around by film reviewers who said it sucked and it didn't have good storyline and character development, and it was just like the other star wars, save pretty princess/queen, and all. But I liked it, wasn't bad like all the reviews said it was, just didn't live up to all the hype. And I don't know why some people enjoy trolling around boards of a topic that they hate and try to induce flaming...

Bobavader is responding to the question, "Are you sick of TPM bashing?" Personally, I thought it was a great movie, and I saw it three times in theatres and at least four times on VHS. I can't wait for the television premeire so I can see it with a large group again.

I pretty much agree with Yeastman. Also a word about "bashing".
If by bashing you mean negative statements about the movie without an explanation, I can understand one getting tired of that.
If by bashing you mean the folks with personal taste different from your own and who take the time to explain their differences then I would submit that that is necessary (movies are designed to promote discussion)and unavoidable. Rather than tire of the folks who disagree with you, you should aim to enjoy intelligent (notice the qualifier) discussion about the movie and its merits/shortcomings.
Just a friendly suggestion.

I've been a fan of the series ever since I first saw Luke swing over the shaft while holding onto the Leia...and that was just a commercial for the movie.

I was drooling over Episode I from just the quick teaser of Obi and Darth Maul having the Great Duel...it was right after Jabba flashed on screen in the trailer. I loved the movie and was truely shocked when the ramblings began about Jar Jar. And I can't understand why people say that Jake can't act...especially after having seen the screen tests of the 3 boys they brought out for the final test. He was by far the best choice and I remember when the Christmas movie "Jingle All the Way" came out. I remember hearing interview after interview about how this little boy stole the scenes away from Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sinbad, Phil Hartman and a ton of other very talented actors and comedians.

All that aside - I love the series. It's my first love and it started my path to becoming a science-fiction fan. And one thing I've learned about science-fiction and movie critics -- they often do not "get" it. They generally prefer the more "artsy" type films that deal with some great emotional anguish set in the current time period or the past. Gene Siskel seemed to be one of the few movie critics who at least seemed to enjoy science fiction to some extent (God rest his soul)..even if he didn't always give them a good review.

And to sum up my ramblings - Yes, I am sick of hearing people bash TPM and the second one (the title of it). But I don't believe that just because they don't like an aspect, or several, that it means they're not a fan. People become fans for different reasons. They just need to start talking about what they did like instead of what they didn't.

Cool Samantha! One think I like about TPM is that there are folks like you out there - who like it to!

Second-highest box office takings and fastest-ever selling DVD suggest more than a few people like TPM.

The simple truth behind non-SW fans who spend so much time bashing it is that people love to hate success. Why else would they go on so much about a film they don't care about? Not nearly so much effort goes into bashing truly awful films like 'The Postman' or 'Speed 2', because they weren't successful.

Self-titled 'fans' (though how they can be fans when they claim to hate 25% of the saga so far released) knock it because it doesn't have the advantage of 20+ years of nostalgia behind it that the original trilogy does. You're bound to feel more towards a movie that you grew up with and was an integral part of your childhood than to one that came out a couple of years ago. Time, and a new generation of SW fans, will prove me right on this one.

I don't mind if someone says it sucks and has a reason for why they think that. But forcing it down someone's throat is not cool.

I think that a person has the right to their opinion. The ability to critisize something is the only way to make it better next time. If no one critisized, what would be the point of development? And as for the "True Fan" comment, there is no such thing. I agree with another post, that the way we view this film is different for everyone and so everybody is a fan in their own right.

A 'true" sw fan does not bash any of the movies but embraces them on thier achivements not flaws!
