I'm sick and tired of going to a movie theather to watch an R rated flick and seeing 12-13 year old kids inside. Don't ask me why, I just do.
I think the MPAA should eliminate the R rating, so, all movies containing strong sexuality and language should be rated NC-17.
Another thing, I don't understand why r the movie studios so affraid of the NC-17 rating. Its incredible that in the last 13 years only two films have had that rating: The Last Temptation of Christ (a great movie by the way) and Showgirls.

Yeah. Porn's not even X-rated. =D oh wait...they're not *real* movies....
I was wondering why there weren't more NC-17 movies. I mean, you'd have adults coming to the show, now wouldn't you? I'd like to seem some :smirk: when I'm old enough.

What is the difference between R rated and NC-17 anyway?

Well that's the problem of your local cinema I'm afraid. All the cinemas in my area demand ID for an R rated show. One time I was turned away because I didn't have my ID. And I was 22 at the time.

The difference my friend is that in an R rated film, anyone under 17 can enter the theater with an adult guardian and/or companion. The NC-17 rating doesn't allow that ("NC" stands for "No Children").

Oh okay thanks.
At my movie theater you are supposed to not be let in an R Rated with out an ID (or a parent even if you are 17). But this one African American kid at my school got into the an R rated movie by pointing to a white woman who was standing next to him and claiming that it was his mother. It was pretty funny actually when he told us the story. (The kid was 17 BTW.)

Where I live you have to be 18 to get into an R-rated movie. Period. You could have your parents, your grandparents, and adult siblings with you and you'd still be SOL if you weren't 18. That said, there aren't many R-rated movies anymore these days. They're getting more and more rare.

The domestic version of a lot of films has been tamed so that they wouldn't get that dreaded NC-17 rating.

I think they need to split the "R" rating for "violence/some language" and "everything else." Movies rated R for violence aren't really that bad, and they should be easier to get into. There are plenty of kids mature enough to handle it. But movies rated R for other reasons should be restricted to adults. I compare "Air Force One" with "40 Days and 40 Nights." The former I could have handled at 12. The latter, I don't think I'll ever be old enough for (or is it juvenile enough for?), and I don't think any immature person should be allowed to see it. So, the "violence/some language" could maybe be a PG-17 or something, and the rest could be NC-17 or a new R rating.

my parents don't usualy see "R" rated films, and when they do i always end up seeing them. the ones i end up seeing arn't really that bad, exept for the violence. but if the movie is pure violence and no story, then i am fobiden to see it. i think that there should be a more excesive use of the NC-17 rating, because most of the movies that are rated are "R" should have the rating NC-17 because of the excesive use of langue and sex. just to conclude everything here, its up to parents to see the movie and then deside that the child is mature enough to handle said movie and for adults to read a variety of reviews and to ask friends to see wether or not the movie is worth seeing.

why not NC-17? It's all about money. If people under 17 can't go, then less money for the studio

I hate the R rating system. the patriot was rated "R" and Titanic was "PG-13" Titanic had sex, nudity, violence(kinda), and language. The patriot? Strong violence and gore, that's it.
Geez, they have nudity in PG-13 movies, and Rated R movies show paper cuts. It's annoying sometimes. I don't care what a movies rated though, some ppl base there movie watching by the rating, i base it on the content.

I base the movies I see on content (and not rating) too.
