For me, I cannot even sit thru five minutes of the blasted CW cartoon, its unbearrable to watch for me, but then again I am 36.

I am most dissapointed that the RC series is being cut short. Halfway thru Triple Zero and I get this news that Karen Traviss will not be continuting the series or even writing any more for EU...

Will 501st be worth reading now?

Will there be someone else to step in and finish off the RC series or will it end with 501st?

Karen will be writing both the 501st and the second Imperial Commando novel, so yes, the RC series will be completed. The 2 IC novels were the only ones scheduled before she left, so, technically, the series will not be cut short as I'm sure she can wrap everything up with the last two.

I'm not so sure everything will be wrapped up. I got a sense from her comments that Karen planned to have plot threads that would be addressed in the Boba Fett novel.

Oh, I'm sure there'll have to be some stuff left open, but since there were only 2 novels scheduled anyway, it's not like they're canceling a whole series. (the plot holes would probably deal with Kad'ika and the clones, I assume?)

Has she begun writing the second IC, does anyone know?

Now would be a GOOD TIME to hear the Blood Oath manuscript came in! (KNows it's most likely not going to happen)

Yeah, it would be a good time for me, too, but it didn't come in.

As for the rest, try not to get too caught up in it -- I don't think it's as huge an issue as is being played out. Not to belittle continuity at all -- that's not what I'm saying -- just have faith in Leland, et al, to work this out. We've always hinted that there will be continuity issues and that we'd have to wait until further along into the animated series to resolve them all, but it will work out.

There's no reason not to enjoy the upcoming Atlas or any of the other books -- they're still valid and still fun. And nothing can negate the enjoyment you've experienced in reading all that has come before.

It's all gonna be okay. Really.

It is really unfortunate that Karen Travis is leaving, the EU books won't be the same without her.

She is one of my favorite Star Wars authors. We have to realize that until the CW series ends we will not know the full extent of the continuity errors.

Can anyone list the top 5 errors in continuity that are really bothering people as I am having difficulty of any at the moment?

Has anyone read the introduction to Dark Empire by Kevin J. Anderson, in which he explicitly states that if George Lucas makes other films, they will likely have nothing to do with these published stories, but enjoy them in the meantime? The promise of continuity was continuity within the EU, not restrictions upon George Lucas or the team of writers fulfilling his vision.

Forgive the triplicate post, but it seems this topic has usurped several threads.

Isn't any doctrine in a fictional universe going to be "made-up"?

Sorry I didn't make myself clearer. I meant is was 'made-up' inasmuchas the doctrines that we are to think about have no basis within GL's universe.

Also, the RC books are considered canon, are they not? As such, couldn't the argument then be made that this "made-up doctrine" does, in fact, exist within GL's Universe?

That's rather my point. By taking her storylines way outside of GL's universe KT may have setup the downfall of the Mandalorian history that has become canon. Thats what I mean by there surely is an onus on the writers and editors within the EU to take account of GL's story, as much as (if not more than) that upon GL to hold true to EU .

As I have been posting over on the DHC forums, in the early 90s I bought into the novels being THE official continuation of the SW story from the films. There was no mention of EU. As I was telling another poster on there, I remember the adverts saying this was official, backed by GL himself. I went checking for any adverts about Heir to the Empire, what I found was one better.

This is from the inside of cover (the flip side) of the Heir to the Empire hardback -

My bold.

"Inside flap

Here is the science fiction publishing event of the year: the exciting continuation of the legendary Star Wars saga. Picking up where the movie trilogy left off, Heir to the Empire reveals the tumultuous events that take place after the most popular series in motion-picture history—masterfully told by Hugo Award-winning author Timothy Zahn.

In spring 1977 a film called Star Wars was released—and a cultural phenomenon was born. Its epic story, about a young man named Luke Skywalker, whose destiny was to save the galaxy from conquest, caught the imaginations of millions and broke all box-office records. Today Star Wars and its sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, are acknowledged as the most popular series in movie history, and rank among the top ten films of all time.

The three Star Wars films form a spectacular saga of bold imaginations and high adventure. But the stories of its characters did not end there. Now for the first time, Lucasfilm Ltd., producer of the Star Wars movies, has authorized the continuation of this beloved story. In an astounding three-book cycle, Timothy Zahn continues the tale of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and the other characters made world famous by Star Wars, as he brilliantly expands upon George Lucas's stunning vision, "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away."

Heir to the Empire, Lucas's authorized canon sequel, begins five years after the end of Return of the Jedi: the Rebel Alliance has destroyed the Death Star, defeated Darth Vader and the Emperor, and driven the remnants of the old Imperial Starfleet back into barely a quarter of the territory that they once controlled. Leia and Han are married and have shouldered heavy burdens in the government of the new Republic. And Luke Skywalker is the first in a hoped-for new line of Jedi Knights.

But thousands of light years away, where a few skirmishes are still taking place, the last of the Emperor's warlords has taken command of the remains of the Imperial fleet. He has made two vital discoveries that could destroy the fragile new Republic—built with such cost to the Rebel Alliance. The tale that emerges is a towering epic of action, invention, mystery, and spectacle on a galactic scale—in short, a story that is worthy of the name Star Wars."
