"simple question, why was it so short?"

It didn't seem short to me--the ms. was 105,000 words, which makes it about the same length as a lot of my other SW novels (not SBS!). But, to tell the truth, lengthening a book is the last thing I think about when I write a story. I'm actually trying to tell the story in as few words possible, because that almost always makes a book more engaging and compelling. So I'm constantly looking for ways to do more with less--trying to accomplish two or three things in a single scene, trying to trim lazy language and cut out scenes that don't advance the plot. If I'd included all the stuff I cut out of INVINCIBLE, it would have been a LOT longer--I'm just not sure anyone would have thanked me for it.

Another reason that it seems short, I think, is the tight focus. It's about ONE thing--Jaina hunting down Jacen--and it turns out that I only needed 105,000 words to tell that story.

That's all for now--I've already spent more time than I should on this first session, but I enjoyed answering your questions. More later--though maybe not so many at one sitting!

Thank you for responding! I apologize for asking a question from a different thread. I honestly haven't been keeping up with Sue's thread which I've heard is pretty cluttered by now with other things. Sorry!

Well thanks again. Pretty neat to have the author take time to answer our questions.

Okay, this is just awesome. My question is, why kill Caedus? Him being an extremely new Sith lord, and the most developed EU character in the series, why kill him. Why not make him into something even larger, and set up another series detailing his downfall?

hi troy thanks for coming on here. I like you writing, especially inferno. Luke has always been known as a redeemer. someone who is on the defensive, and tries to save people with the light side. Is it realistic that luke would struggle with the dark side after all he has accomplished? Was it a struggle for you to find a way to write luke skywalker so he is in charcater with who he has always been?

Thank you so much Mr. Denning for answering my question. And from your answers to Jaina, I feel a lot better about this book, though I loved it since day 1 for the emotion, action, and plot. And of course, your use of Tenel Ka, my favorite character in all of SW. You seem to get her character and use her more than any other author. And for that I am grateful, among other things.

You are amazing for doing this, Troy! You're also an amazing author, so, hey, it's like a double-pronged attack!

I do have a question...

You were one of the first NJO authors to bring the characters from the Young Jedi Knights books into the limelight, which was a brilliant move, as they were poised to be the next generation of heroes. At the end of Legacy of the Force, however, the majority of them are dead. I guess my question is, then --- do you think that there is enough of a next generation left that, in ten years (in-Universe, so, by 50 ABY), the torch can be passed? Or do you feel that the question is moot, and that the books should continue to be about Han, Luke, and Leia?

I ask this because it was Invincible that added Zekk to the dead/MIA list of Young Jedi Knights.

Thank you so much for your in-depth explanation. I'm sorry I was unable to grasp what you were trying to portray when I read the book; your explanation lifts a huge weight off my heart. I wanted so badly to absolutely love this book, so it's very possible that I was so wrapped up in what I wanted to see that I was unable to fully appreciate what was written on the paper. Your explanation regarding Jaina's stoic confrontation with Jacen makes perfect sense, and I'm sure the next time I read Invincible I will be able to see that.

Likewise, I will absolutely agree that Jaina holding Jacen's body after the duel was extremely powerful and emotional; you're so right when you said that Jaina's character is extremely close to my heart, and I just wish that brief paragraph could go on for 50 more pages! It's been a very long time since the days when Jaina and Jacen's lives were completely intertwined, and the fan in me wanted to hold that thought one last time before the inevitable happened. Thanks again, Troy; I'll certainly continue to support the Star Wars EU and your contribution to it. :) See you at Comic Con (if you're there)!

Any chance of, or thoughts on an ebook dealing with what Tenel Ka and Allana went through at the end of Invincible (i.e. how they survived or their actualy separation from each other)?

Hello Troy, really a fan of your SW books and your final LOTF novel. I have a question for you.
Was it true that you had to kill Luke for some minutes and seconds and then bring him back?
If you were only killing off Jacen/Caedus than why
Luke?

Normally, I let my stories speak for themselves, and I'm going to continue doing that with INVINCIBLE. But, not being totally out of touch, I've noticed that INVINCIBLE has generated some strong reactions. So I thought you might appreciate the chance to ask about some of the reasons behind some of the choices I made.

......an yet again this is another reason why you Rock sir. ;)

This is a rather personal question I hope you don't mind answering. Who exactly are the 'Rescue Dogs' and how did they contribute to your work on Invincible?

-Thank You

Mr. Denning, thank you so much for answering questions and for an enjoyable book tour! It was an honor to welcome you in Minnesota on the first day Invincible was released. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and was quite annoyed when I had to put it down.

Question: What was the inspiration for the blood stain trail?

It is the first time I've come across anything of the sort, and was wondering it is something from another culture, myth from history; or, maybe an insect thing...
