"You were one of the first NJO authors to bring the characters from the Young Jedi Knights books into the limelight, which was a brilliant move, as they were poised to be the next generation of heroes. At the end of Legacy of the Force, however, the majority of them are dead. I guess my question is, then --- do you think that there is enough of a next generation left that, in ten years (in-Universe, so, by 50 ABY), the torch can be passed? Or do you feel that the question is moot, and that the books should continue to be about Han, Luke, and Leia?"
Speaking more as a fan than a writer (i.e., I probably don't know much more than anyone else about what the GFFA will look like in 50ABY), I do think there are enough young knights left to carry the torch when the time comes. We still have Jaina, Lowbacca, Tahiri, Raynar, etc. who were actually in the YJKs books, plus "new" charactes like Ben and Tesar Sebatyne, and the children of some of the other Jedi (the Horn kids, for example). That's more than enough to build a story around--and don't forget that we can write more into the story, if need be.
As tfor the second part of your question, again speaking as a fan, I guess I'm not that eager to see the big three put out to pasture. I still enjoy reading (and writing) about Han, Luke, and Leia, and their characters are still developing in very interesting ways. So my preference (again--don't read anything into this, I'm just giving my opinion as a fan) would be to see a rough balance between the old and the new, with the big three still taking leadership roles, but with some stories/storylines that focus on the younger generation (in much the same way Invincible's focus was on Jaina, Jacen, and Ben).

Okay Troy, I do have a question.
When Luke is fighting Lumiya in Tempest he gets knocked across a claqball table and there are a couple mentions of the claqball table throughout the pages that cover the duel. It caught my attention because the surface of the claqball table is described as "squishy", I believe the word was, and I was wodering, what is claqball

Just wanted to comment quickly on the "Why did Jaina beat Jacen instead of Luke" discussion. Personally, I'm glad it wasn't Luke. He played a role and supported Jaina but seriously, how many times do we want to read about Luke beating down the villain to save the day and everyone else cheering? It was a refresher to see it be someone new.
Plus, this adds a ton of character depth to Jaina, who before this series had (at least in my opinion) very little of it. As Troy mentioned, he'd like to see a 50/50 between the oldies and the newer generation, and Invincible went a long ways toward accomplishing that.

It seems to me that there are a couple places in Invincible where you use physical descriptions to also subtly apply to something else, such that it is a subtle message to the reader. Was this intentional? If so, how do you decide when to use this technique?

Mr. Denning,
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer readers' questions.
You mentioned earlier that Zekk was Jaina's sacrifice to complete her quest, more or less. I understand what you were doing with this, it fits perfectly into the "hero cycle" of literary tradition. Regardless, that doesn't mean I enjoy seeing one of my favorite characters potentially written out.
My question is, because I know that you are a Zekk fan as well and you left his fate open-ended, are you hoping to perhaps return and write Zekk's fate yourself? I'm sure that there is no deal in the works at the moment, but you tend to write the character with more heart than others so I'm hoping that you will be able to bring him back much in the way you did Raynar (though perhaps without the dramatic personality change.)

Mr. Denning,
Thank you so much for taking time for the fans. As of right now I have no questions, You've pretty much gotten to what I was curious about in previous posts. It is so nice to get an explanation to some things.
LOVED THE STORY!!

We've already had two occassions where Luke an Cadeus fought. That was good enough for me. However in this book we still got a chance to see an image fight from Caedus pov. Jaina was a good choice for the final conflict. An the fight was believable. Just because Caedus knew more force techniques doesnt mean they all apply at the same time. I enjoyed J vs J. (alot)
what ever happened to Nashtah
That was another brilliant fight. (Aurra vs jacen) She was supposed to be imprisoned, but shes been known to escape captivity.

For Troy;
I can't speak for the die hard Mando fans, but in my opinion I think you did an amazing job with Mirta Gev. When different people write certain characters I often look for the differences in the way they are depicted.
With Mirta , it was a seamless transition. How much influence / help did you have fom Karen when writing this character? It was spot on.
(sorry if this was asked previously)

Mr. Denning,
I just finished Invincible... and I found it to be the most enjoyable of the LotF books since Betrayal. I did enjoy how the book moved almost without a break from start to finish with the Jaina/Jacen duel.
My question is (and this might have been touched on by others) why did you decide to end it so abruptly after the death of Cadeus? It felt that at the end there were a lot of other loose ends that were either tied up completely off-screen or not tied up at all. Even if Jaina and Han might not have cared about Niathal and the negotiations to end the conflict... Luke would have been involved (and thus Ben could have given us some insight into what was going on).
I have a second question - but not book related - who do I need to talk to to get Portland on your book tour schedule (for future books - I'm gambling that you're not retiring just yet).
Thanks

Great book Mr. Denning. My question is, Why didn't you give Caedus back his arm? I know he's powerful and prideful at the same time. But even Vader and Luke got their arm(s) back.
