Why was there never a jacen-luke rematch? It almost feels like after luke lost to vader in Ep5, leia then stands up and defeats vader.

Generally I was very satisfied with the book, but something just occurred to me - why didn't Luke just tell Jaina her appearance would be masked with his own? Couldn't she have better used it to her advantage if she'd been aware of it? And anyway, if the idea was that Caedus underestimated her, wouldn't he maybe have fought less fiercely in the first battle if he hadn't thought it was Luke?

I think Luke feared a rematch, Kevin, by what he wrote for the character in his novel. In the beginning, the Jedi wondered why Luke wasn't going to get Caedus and he answered truthfully that he kept seeing a very dark end if he did fight a rematch with him.

Troy would have to confirm that but Luke said a few times in Invincible that everytime he saw himself battling Caedus after his "tainting" with Luminya, he found a bleak future .

Mr. Denning,
First of all, thank you for your willingness to answer questions! I've enjoyed reading the responses, and they've been helpful in better understanding Invincible. I also want to thank you for your amazing contributions to the Star Wars universe, especially such powerful ending to LOTF. A lot of people have mentioned Star by Star, and it is one of my all-time favorites as well.

I'm not sure if you'll make it this far in the questions, but something I've been wondering is if writing Anakin Solo's death in SBS influenced your writing of Jacen's death in Invincible. Did it make it harder or different having already written the death of one of Han and Leia's children?

Thanks again for taking the time to do this!

the idea that luke skywalker could fall to the darkside and thus doesnt fight the main villain is nothing more than a plot point set up so jaina could fight jacen. Thus my question is why have jaina fight jacen not luke?

Poetic justice after the Vong culture demanding that twins fight each other?

Heh, I hear what you're saying, Kevin. I do. I think a lot of people wondered why Luke wouldn't do it himself instead of Jaina.

Perhaps, this was something agreed upon by Sue, Troy, Karen and Aaron a long time before Invincible came along...i.e an overall idea that Jaina would always be the one to take down Caedus. It would be the most emotional outcome...

Troy would need to confirm it. But I hear ya.

oh im sure it was committee decision, but that brings me to another question. When was it deciced for jaina to do it? All the early stuff points to luke being the one. and jaina has basically no page time in the series compared to jacen, luke, and ben.

Yes, Karen seems to be the first one as a set up to the Jaina storyline doing it. Perhaps, it was planned to begin in book 8 as "Jaina time" for readers.

Really good question, Path. I think that's I was wondering how many times did Troy have to go through that Jaina-Caedus battle in his head. How many edits before he liked it...

I mean, Troy must have gotten some serious flack for Anakin's death. Imagine, as an author, having to kill two Solo children.

I know it must have been tough for him.

I'll try to be brief.
Were you not allowed to kill Luke?
In my opinion this series would be the ideal opportunity to kill Luke. There will never be a greater nemesis to Luke than Jacen, and I doubt anyone wants Luke to die slowly or by some indirect tragedy. And according to the Legacy comics he is dead, so it isn't a completely taboo topic. Frankly, the way you were building up Lukes storyline in Invincible it seemed like he was going to pull an Obi-wan and let Caedus kill him, thereby passing the torch to Jaina. I think it would have led to backlash but it also would have moved the EU story into new interesting territory. Lukes jedi Order is stale, it doesn't have a lot to offer, and neither does he.
Anywho, feel free to pummel me with scorn or maybe even support my arguement for the death of Luke Skywalker, but I think it was a perfect opportunity for him to go out in a memorable way and it was missed.

I actually agree with you retro. As hard as it would be for me to see Luke die, I thought that Jacen definitely should've been the one to end him. He's a great character but I do believe that his death would've worked well into this storyline. Obviously, I have no idea what's on the horizon for these characters, but Jacen certainly felt like the right man for the job. Anyway, I loved this series immensely, probably my favorite at this point. I thought all three authors did an incredible job, Troy especially (I've loved your work ever since Star by Star). I was just really hoping for something more while reading Invincible. My expectations were extremely high, I'll admit, but the end duel between Jacen and Jaina just felt a little anti-climactic to me. It was still amazing though and I'm certainly looking forward to any future adventures from Mr. Denning.

I believe the greatest threat to Luke will be White Eyes and the rest of the Sith. It was clear they have a plan, expecially with the interaction they had with Alema. I believe they could not do what they want to because of the current role and strength the Jedi have in the galaxy. Jacen was a stepping stone which will be reveiled in the next series or stand alone.
I believe there will be peace, just not forever.
I know some are getting tired of what seems the same old chaos but in a galaxy of millions of star systems and thousands of different species, what can you expect. I enjoy following the lives of these characters, I can't wait for the next conflict!
I still wanted more from Invincible, especially since they don't have much to release in the near future.

Maybe it's just me, but it's always seemed like Jacen is protrayed more arrogantly in your novels than novels by other authors. Is there a reason for that? Even back in Star by Star, it seemed like he was more arrogant than in other NJO novels. In Dark Nest, he seemed to grow even more arrogant., while less arrogant in Allston's and Traviss' LotF novels And in Invincible, it appeared that he was being just stupidly arrogant.

well im not troy but when you isolate yourself and declare yourself the mouthpiece for the force, you will be bound to become arrogant. its gonna happen and troy did well in DN,inferno, and invincible in portraying that.
