What is sure to become an often linked to series:

- Episode IV: What Has Changed?

- Episode V: What Has Changed?

- Episode VI: What Has Changed?

For me personally, it's pretty much a first look at the true originals. Looking forward to see the DVDs.

Good job, marketing!

:D

Love it! It's great to see them side by side to compare. I really think the '77 dewback is way cuter :D

The side by side comparison was quite illuminating...although quite obvious in some places.

It's good to see such a thorough breakdown of the differences. Now everyone can appreciate that there were many improvements made to the film, things that go far beyond Greedo shooting first.

I still think Lucas "Mustached the Mona Lisa" when he "improved" things.

Very cool slide show! My favorite one was the shot of the Tractor Beam display. Nice how they got rid of the English lettering for 2004 and changed it to Aurebesh lettering. Made much more sense.

One shot they forgot about was one I will always remember. In the 1977 version, during the saber duel between Kenobi and Vader, at one point Obi Wan's lightsaber blade clearly looks like a glass rod. Naturally, they touched that up for the 2004 version. Still, it would have been cool to see that shot side by side. :)

Man, I can't believe I forgot about these contrast. It's so weird, you think you know a movie, but do you really? Wow, I can't wait, My OT VCR movies were lost in storage accept ESB,so I can't wait.

I'm showing my wife this right now, since she never really saw the '77 versions (except maybe a couple times as a kid)

i am absolutely astounded at some of the things I had not noticed between the different versions.

Also there are many i have noticed like in episode 4 where Luke and Threepio are in the landspeeder screaming across the desert.

this photo shows shows what I noticed about the bottom underneath the speeder being covered with rock in the original to hide tha fact it had wheels.

Look ma! No eyebrows!

Episode VI: What Has Changed

I continue to be split on the changes on the OT. To me, alot of the 04 restoration is a bit on the oversaturated side, and some of the digital sharpening (amongst other digital upgrades) takes away from the look of natural atmospheric depth of field.

With this E6 comparison, it's a big reminder of how poor the Rancor pit scene was for the most part, before cleanup and enhancement. But still, I can see some matting in the 04 version, and some of the digital FX don't look any more real to me than stop motion puppets. That's not to dis the work in the 04 SE - it's a compliment to the masterful work of ILM 1977-1983 :)

One thing I've noticed is that in Episode IV there is no alteration to the colouring of R2-D2 during the attack on the Death Star, however in the other two episodes they make a point of showing the changes. Where's the consistency?

A very disappointing oversight in my opinion.

I noticed that too when I saw the SE's in '97. It's really bugged me since. I think they've done a great job "fixing up" these movies but I think they still have a lot more to do. The "garbage mattes" around the TIEs when attacking the Falcon in ANH are still painfully noticable, as is the black slug on the side of Palpatine's face in ROTJ (better, but still there). I can't wait for these things to all get cleaned up....

I agree. I love the 2004 Special Editions but there's still a lot more work to do for the 2007 box set. But what I'm really hoping for are extended editions. It's time to clean up and put back all of the deleted scenes. Luke's introduction, Anchorhead and Biggs (and Camie and Fixer), the Wampas breaking into Hoth base (CGI can handle what couldn't be done then) and 3PO's diversion (where the snowtroopers enter the room with the Wampas), the sandstorm scene in ROTJ, Jerjerrod's death, Vader choking the royal guards, etc.
