I felt very little emotion when I was reading it. That's terrible, considering the events that occur. Karen Traviss was able to make me cry with just the 2-page epilogue of Revelation, and yet I felt barely any hint of heartbreak as I read the scene I had been anticipating for years.
Gosh, for me it was the opposite, even though I knew what was happening. What got me were the Jacen jokes at the beginning of the chapters. I was continually reminded of what a great person Jacen was; how tender and caring, bright, inventive, playful -- all those wonderful qualities.... and here he is now; corrupt through wrong thinking and jealousy, totally out of control and out of touch, way off the track and needing to be stopped. The jokes made me feel to tender toward him that when the inevitable did happen, I did tear up, just remembering the boy/man he used to be and how he totally messed himself up, and for Jaina, for what she had to do.....

As a long-time Jaina and Jacen fan (I've been obsessed with them since I was 12 years old!), I wanted a tearful reunion between them, regardless of what the outcome of their duel was. To that end, what appeared in the book simply fell flat.
Yes, I agree, there was no tearful reunion between the two. Jacen was well beyond being able to accept responsibility for his actions and stop. I don't think he was technically insane, but his power had certainly affected his reasoning ability. I don't think there was any possibility that he would sit down and talk with Jaina and admit that he had made some major missteps. Boy gone wild.

Oh, I'm slightly offended! I admit, I didn't read the entire thread from when I had to sign out for a bit, so if you have a particular negative comment that I missed and you want me to respond to, just point it out.

I like the LofF overall, but some things were brought up and never followed up on. In the first book (I think) we had Wedge and Tycho, but then never hear another thing about them. Then you had Syal Antilles (I think that's the one) who is brought in like she will be a big part of the series and then nothing is heard about her. I could even see if some characters only popped up in a certain author's novel, but those few weren't. I also thought a big deal was made over Jaina's Mando training and then she apparently only used it in one fight (the first). That should have been in THE fight.
This is a possible downside to having multiple authors write a series. Certain authors love certain characters and feature them in their books, never to be seen again. However, the flip side is that more readers get a taste of different characters and situations, and, hopefully, more of you will find what you want.

How long until we hear something official (from SW.com) on the new novel coming out the end of the year "Melinium Falcon"? Is it on the old contract, a stand-alone (is that possible?) or is it the first of a new contract? I understand if you can't answer but I'm just so dang curious.
I don't know how long. Generally we wait until there's a cover or something to show, along with some cover copy. I know that with Indy and Clone Wars we've all been playing catch-up.
It's a stand-alone by Jim Luceno and is set a few years after the events of Legacy of the Force. Han, Leia, and Allana go off on an adventure.... and all three come back alive, just so you know.

I've just received the book today, and gonna read all books back-to-back in the coming weeks (I like to read a series when it's complete). But, naturally, I browsed the book once I got it out the box, and seeing these little jokes Jacen used to make in the Young Jedi Knights-books made me feel kinda emotional (I've read these juvenile books once the came out). It brought back memories when Jacen and Jaina used to have these adventures as twins, unknowing of what fate the galaxy had in store for them... Anyway, I think I am gonna like this series very very much...
On a side note, I really like the layout of the wrap-around cover: the color, the image,t he text-blurbs... (and I hope the announcement in the back is the first book of the new contract as I like what Del Rey, and LucasBooks, are doing a lot...)

Hi Sue,
I would just like to say how much I enjoyed Invincible. I thought that for the final book of LotF it was great. It focused in on Jacen being the key to the whole crisis and while the resolution to the war was short, it made sense from my perspective. Well done to everyone involved.
This combined with James Luceno writing Millenium Falcon and the amazing Legacy comic series has me really looking forward to what future stories you have planned for us.

Sue, is there a reason you guys (whoever decides on the timeline) set the Millennium Falcon book so far after an existing series?
The reason I ask is, it seems with every subsequent book, a handful of years always pass between them. What that does, IMO, is age our heroes so fast, that before we know it, they're old.

For instance, "a few years" after LotF means that a character like Jaina will be closing in on 40. It just seems like yesterday that she was a teenager in the Yuuzhan Vong war, and only 3 series later she's middle aged? Allana is 4 or 5 in LotF. Now she'll be 10 or 11. That's quite a leap in age. Will we ever get filler novels, to fill in these huge gaps?

It's more like two years in between, so Allana will only be 6 or 7. We're putting the gap in there so you won't have to read about the angst and grief our main characters experience after Jacen's death, etc. We want them to be able to recover a bit, off camera.

Thanks so much for answering Sue!! You're the best!! Well, at least top five... Just kidding... you're the best! I love Luceno's novels. I also like the gap. I think it's good to have some down time as well to show that our heroes actually do have stretches (though small they are) of somewhat normal life when the galaxy isn't falling appart. The new book sounds great!
Sue, you really have me looking forward to you being able to talk about what's going on in the future. COMEON CONTRACT STUFF!!!! GET RESOLVED!!!!

What?! Why would you skip over the emotional aftermath of the death one of the EU's most pivotal characters? "Jacen's dead, so we can move on and forget him?" All told, about fifteen pages was spent dealing with the main characters', mostly Jaina's, reactions to Jacen's death, and that's all we're going to get?
