Camping was wonderful. A bit cool and windy, but so nice to be outside under the redwoods, next to the Pacific. And there's nothing quite like napping in a tent.....
Inferno... I found two short excerpts that don't seem to be spoilers..... I gotta be careful though, so if you don't want to read even excerpts...... best go elsewhere for the moment.
Here you go --
"Because she's Alema Rar," Jaina responded. And if we waste time trying to figure out why she does anything, we're crazier than she is."
Jag chuckled -- as he usually did whenever Jaina disagreed with Zekk -- then said, "To a degree. Does that mean you sense something?"
"Give me a chance," Jaina replied. "We just got here."
"We need time to attune ourselves to the local currents," Zekk explained. "It's not like that new ship of hers is a dark side beacon. It was just giving off a little aura before."
"So you're saying we need to make a second pass?" Jag asked.
"And probably a third and a seventh," Jaina answered. "It might take some effort to find her, but I'd bet my shirt that Alema is here."
Jag said, "I accept!" at the same time Zekk said "Okay!"
Jaina frowned, confused by their enthusiasm. "What?"
"Your bet." Zekk leered across the fuselage. "I accepted."
"Hey, I was first!" As usual, it was impossible to tell from Jag's tone whether he was joking, but Jaina thought he probably was. The only gambling she had ever seen him do involved starfighters and slim chances of survival. "The bet is with me."
"Ha, ha -- very funny," Jaina said. "What part of not interested don't you two understand?"

And here's one other short excerpt....
again, skip it if you want...
here it is....
"I know you'll do the best thing for Hapes", Jacen said, sounding slightly amused. "I was asking about you and Allana."
"About us?" Tenal Ka was surprised by the question, for the answer was as obvious as it was painful. "You must know the answer to that already."
The color drained from Jacen's face. "What about hiding? I could ask the Fallanassi to take you in."
Tenel Ka smiled sadly. "That will work for a time, Jacen -- perhaps even until the Confederation grows tired of looking for us. But they can't rule Hapes without Hapan blood on the throne, and whoever they install as their puppet won't tire. The pretender will be too frightened of me or Allana trying to return, and she'll keep looking until we're dead."
Jacen's shoulders slumped, then he dropped back onto the couch and cradled his head. "Then we have no choice."
"About what?" Tenel Ka asked, alarmed by the desperation in his voice. "Jacen, if you are considering using something like Alpha Red --"

This last excerpt is awesome! I'd like to see some of this since Bloodlines. I believe I'll be satsified now with this meeting.

Sue! You rock! First day back and you treat us with this. Wow, thanks!
You just made my day - especially with the Jaina teaser.
Jaina's in such denial. Although... if Jag wins her shirt in this bet, it's only fair -- after all, she cleaned him out in sabacc in Ylesia.

again, skip it if you want...
Are you kidding?
There are not enough or the proper emoticons to express how much that first teaser made my day, Sue.
The second one was awesome and ominous.
Thanks for sharing.

Sue, give or take when would you guys begin or think about negotiate the new contract? Would you strive for a diverse placement of eras, in light of the new animated series and live action series? Or would those be considered in seperate contracts from the regular EU?

The new contract has been agreed upon, but the papers haven't been signed yet and until they are I can't reveal the publisher or number of books involved. The contract is with the legal folks and I have no clue how long it will take for it to go through the rounds, whether it would be weeks or months. I hope weeks, but we'll see.
Would you strive for a diverse placement of eras, in light of the new animated series and live action series? Or would those be considered in seperate contracts from the regular EU?
The animated and live action series are separate and will be contracted out separately -- discussions haven't begun for either of these yet.
As far as eras go, I'd like to place another series beginning after the LotF, and a few in some of the other eras -- I'm fond of the KotoR era -- but creative discussions haven't started yet.

Thank you for the excerpts and I do hope you had a nice vacation, Sue.
I just had a thought about the Jacen/TK scene, however.
To me, it sounded a little too much like Anakin and Padme discussing in Ep. 2 how they could hide how they feel, with Padme dismissing this idea, saying "I can't live a lie."
I've noticed a lot of parallels between Anakin Skywalker and Jacen Solo, and I wouldn't be a good constructive critic unless I let you know that this could be interpreted as the Legacy of the Force series being unoriginal.
My question is, in what ways, in your opinion, does Jacen's story significantly differ from Anakin's?
I don't mean to sound too critical, but I'm an English Major, it's my job to examine all texts with a critical eye. I take Star Wars just as seriously, and hold it to the same standards of quality, as I do any other text I study.

If Jaina's in denial, I'd say it's about both of the guys. And judging from the excerpt, it looks like Zekk and Jag are starting to get along better. If anything, Jaina should start to worry about them picking on her.
Whether or not either of them wants Jaina, they would probably still like to see her with her shirt off! I'm a guy, so I can agree with them! And if Jaina does lose her shirt, the boys should split it between them. Let's face it, she is quite attractive.
I think this is allowing the possibility that if Jaina ends up with Zekk, they can still be good friends with Jag, or vice versa.

(cont) As for the second excerpt, it shows that Tenel Ka has unfortunately not yet clued in to Jacen's new Sith nature (which sucks, but what can you do?), but that he still cares about her and their daughter very much. It also shows how far the Confederation may be willing to go to achieve their goals, and that like before, Hapes may once again become a battleground in this war.
And it definitely shows how insidious the Hapans themselves can be, and how determined they can be when it comes to power, especially if it's the throne.
Please watch your back, and your daughter's, Tenel Ka.
