Comic Con --

There wasn't much new revealed during the Fate of the Jedi panel -- the 6th novel is titled VORTEX and we're working on coming up with cover ideas now. There's a good possibility that this cover will feature two characters, if we can make it work conceptually. Many of the audience questions revolved around whether favorite characters will appear.

A bunch of us met (authors, editors, et al) Saturday morning for a lengthy story conference -- looking at the remaining books in the series, and discussing the over-all plot(s). We discussed characters' motivations and the galaxy at large and realized that another critical sub-plot was developing on Coruscant that could be pursued. I love these meetings -- sitting in a room together -- brainstorming, laughing, and eating muffins. I feel honored to be able to contribute creatively and watch the really talented people take a small idea and come up with captivating situations. And the interaction among the authors works exceptionally. Christie would have a spark of an idea that Aaron would hit on and set up in his book; Troy would see something developing in Christie's book that he'd want to finish off; some small throw-away line would become a set-up for something happening somewhere else... We'd come up with a major development and then see whose book it should occur in, with exclamations of "Wow! I get to put that in my book!!" -- everyone works so well together that it's going to be a really cohesive series.

I partied a bit too ;). Friday night was the Random House get-together and Terry Brooks was there. How great to see him again! I met Alex Irvine in person for the first time. Wonderful guy. Met Jason Fry face-to-face, and ran into old friends like Dan Wallace -- we've worked together since that first Essential Guide to Planets and Moons -- Chris Trevas (Star Wars Blueprints and many Essential Guides -- and I totally enjoy hanging out with Shelly Shapiro (Random House) and seeing Randy Stradley (Dark Horse) in the flesh (so to speak).

Can't wait until next year for Star Wars Celebration V!!! Don't know where or when yet... but it'll be great fun.

Since Blood Oath has been put on hold indefinitly, are there plans in the works to brainstorm a replacement novel, or is it too early to go into that?

Since Random House contracts for a specific number of novels, if BLOOD OATH is canceled, there will be another novel, just not released on that pub date (obviously).

Hello Sue,

Thanks for the Comic-Con update! I watched the coverage of the SW panel on G4 this weekend, but it's fun to know what else happens, behind the scenes!

Some of us are talking on the Should the "Tales of" line be brought back? (WARNING SPOILERS) forum on the subject of the effectiveness of fan-supported petitions, or other ways to get fan input into future projects. Our particular focus was on bringing back short-story-collection-style books reminiscent of Tales of the Bounty Hunters, Tales from the New Republic, etc., for future, original short stories (Tales of the NJO and Tales of the Old Republic were the two most popular).

Are there effective ways at bringing forth such fan ideas/requests? Would a petition, electronically signed by not only us forum users but those from other forums too, work at bringing these ideas to the PTB? If not, is there a mechanism for such fan-idea submission?

Thank you!

Mason_1701:
No, there's no official path for making suggestions, but I will forward your note on to the PTB.

Cool. Thank you.

It's fun to know that you guys at Del Rey listen to us fans. I understand the need for rejecting specific story ideas, fanfic, etc., or you'd just be swamped, but it's good to know that you listen to what we're saying in the broad strokes. Story A works for us; Story B doesn't. Character A sounds really fun, we want more; Character B is a bit convoluted, kill him soon.

lol from the look of the Crosscurrent forum, there may be a deluge of either pro- or anti-time travel posts in January :)

I thought the Naberrie family was discussed as possibly being in the live action series.

I doubt that will happen. I don't even care about that. I want Luke and Leia to interact with them, and there's no reason not to bring them in as a background character since there are everyone else's relatives always showing up.
I am sorry it took so long to answer. I sprained my neck a week ago, and nothing really helps, but time.

I am looking forward to the Atlas. It looks great. Someone mentioned the Hapan map didn't show Kavan. Is it in the Mists, and not there?

Thanks for that FOTJ brainstorm-session update, Sue. I find details about that (i.e. the round robin in the back of certain novels, reasons how or why authors came up with certain characters/plots) boundlessly valuable and intriguing to read about. It's also great to know that these 3 authors (as well as you and everyone else involved) are working so well as a cohesive unit to make this series the best it can be.

So the exact opposite of Legacy of the Force, then?

Awesome. :D:D:D

two questions:
Are we going to get any info on the Sean Williams book anytime soon?

and

With the Atlas almost out, what's up next in your line of Essential Guides?

With the Atlas almost out, what's up next in your line of Essential Guides?

The Wook has an entry for an "Essential Guide to the Star Wars Military", to be authored by Karen Traviss, but it's been a year since it was announced and nothing new has been put on there since.

It risks being particularly emphatic on the Mandalorian military and the GAR, but if it ends up being completely impartial, focusing equally on all militaries within Star Wars, and also focusing on not just ground forces and infantry, but vehicles, fighters, starships, ideally even Navy. It may prove daunting, but if there's only one person alive who can do it, it's Ms. Traviss.

I just hope we get more details on it soon.

The last couple of questions are around projects still in process -- won't be any additional info on these for another month or so, probably.

Hello. With "Essential Guide to the Star Wars Military" in the works by Ms. Traviss, I'm wondering if information pertaining to the Galactic Empire will be based on the great "Imperial Sourcebook" released long ago by West End Games. I know it was just a RPG supplement, but I'm afraid it'll just be tossed aside or forgotten. It was one of the best sourcebooks of its time in terms of information. What exactly is the canon status of the old sourcebooks from WEG? And if it's still all good, please pass it on to those involved not to forget the "Imperial Sourcebook" :)

Just wanted to pop in and express my support and admiration for the Legacy team. Once again, with "Tatooine, Part II," they've given us a solid story with so many subtle visual moments and minor twists that feel large in the scope of what we've seen in the series. Ostrander and Duursema never seem to disappoint.
