I agree with Cadderly and Mr Ferguson that trilogies and/or duologies might put a lot more emphasis on individual plotlines and characters. While I enjoyed LOTF thoroughly and respect each individual author immensely, I am also outspoken about the 'loose-end' dilemma. Each author had their favorites, and while it was refreshing to get a different cast for each book, it did seem a bit random to me. (To ME. Not speaking for anyone else... ) So I would agree that stand-alones, tri's and duo's might be a bit more . . . exciting for me as a fan, and it would give the author(s) more time to devote to the individual stories and characters, rather than a 9-book series with a host of different characters in each.
Just my 2 cents. Thanks again Sue for continuing to answer our questions and take the time to note our concerns.

There is a lot of concern over disappearing storylines, characters, etc., but they serve their purpose. For one, some readers wanted more about the tassels and feel that thread of the story was left hanging. But writers can and do use red herrings to trick readers.
As for characters used from one book to the next, each author has to write what interests him or her. I'd rather see Allston use the pilots and Denning use the YJK characters because they allow the writer to feel passionate for the characters and the story. Too, if they used Wedge and the Wraiths in all nine books instead of Boba, for example, being thrown in the mix, there is no incentive for Boba fans to buy the books. Or what if they had used all Boba and no pilots? The broad use of characters ensures more readers get to enjoy the series.
I liked the nine book format with three rotating authors. I'm sure the powersthatbe know what did and didn't work and this time it will only be better.

yes, but boba if you think about wasn't absolutely necessary to the plot. They could have had jacen torture and kill someone else's daughter whereas with wedge he was correllian and his daughter was fighting for the GA. Much more important to have them in the story than some overhyped bounty hunter(IMO)!

I vote for fewer books pr. year, if that is what it takes to produce quality and continuity.

I think that the LOTF was a good series overall, but it had problems with characterization, and story lines. While I applaud LFLs work to provide material to fans in a timely manner and ton-going series, I would have to vote for a return to shorter series.
There are so many eras to develop at the moment that even if it took a year between books of a series as Sue suggests (and as this is her job, i think she's probably pretty close to accurate) It shouldn't be to difficult to have 3 or 4 series running concurrently by different authors in different time periods.
For example: if KT did a series set in the clone wars, Troy did a series set just after NJO, Aaron did a series just after LOTF, and Drew K. continued his Bane series, the four series could alternate every 3 months, and stand-alone or other works could cover the gaps between the publishing. Each author would have a full year to write the book, and fans would get a greater diversity in publishing.
Just my suggestion.

At some point in the near future, I hope, I will be able to remove the tape from my fingers and actually type you more complete information about what's coming up. Just be assured that the unmentionable 9-book series rumor is not the only stew on the stove. There will be ample side-dishes and a few chocolate sprinkles here and there. Plus, Dark Horse is brewing something as well, something that I am very excited about....

Thanks for the hints Sue. I for one look forward to whatever you come up with. [though I'll take this opportunity to suggest filler novels between NJO, DN, and LOTF].
I'm assuming that your Dark Horse reference is something other than the already announced Clone Wars that we all know about already, so you're going to spark some new debate and speculation here on the forums.....

Agreed. And Droma and Talon Karrde should be in them.
...What? Henning's allowed to drop hints, why can't I?

I like chocolate sprinkles. And Dark Horse!
I won't ask anything else until I have something to go on rather than just rumours. Come on, new contract announcement!

And many of us don’t think the things you think are problems are actually problems at all. Just because the people who were satisfied, or even pleased or enthused, about LOTF (and Invincible’s ending) aren’t as vocal as the people who have complaints doesn’t mean there aren’t just as many of us. Maybe more, for all we know. Your expectations about how series should progress (and conclude) isn't the same as mine, or many other readers'. "darthlex"
I second that. I am tired of all the complaining. It makes me think, "did I really like that book as much as I thought?" No matter what direction the powers-that-be choose to go, there is going to be some unhappy campers.
Sue, I can't wait for the stew, sides and chocolate sprinkles, in whatever form they take, and whenever they are delivered.

I'm going to chime in and plead a case for Luke Skywalker.
Please don't let him be alone forever. He needs a mate. He already had a soulmate, but there's no reason he can't have a simple love and a companion for the rest of his life. No kids, of course, but he doesn't do well alone. He shouldn't be alone too long. Ben will be out adventuring soon and the old man will be all morose and pouting. I hate moodly/sullen Luke. He's happier with a wife. I say ignore all the prudes and get Luke a gal, one that's not force sensitive, but smart, lovely, near his age, and has her own thing going on. No Mara knock offs either! Uniqueness!

A life-size chocolate Han Solo, perhaps?

Chocolate sprinkles are my favorite.
Had to tape the fingers together? Can't wait until the tape is off!
