I can`t find the forum about how to pronounce all those unpronunciable names.
I suggested the books authors to include a phonetic transcription of each planet,character,...name.
I think nobody is in agreement with me!
Maybe this is not a good idea.
Tell me what do yuo think about it?

Awhile back I posted a thread asking other posters how they thought certain names were pronounced. All I got were replies like "what differnce does it make how it's pronounced" and "who cares?" Things like that. Blah.

I think they aught to put a 'how to pronounce' section in books. Apparantly, the pronounciation of some names varies from tape to tape, even whe they're done by the same company. That's just annoying.

and also peoples accents can change the pronunciation of a word.

but that's got nothing to do with it really... i'll shut up...

It´s easy to create a standard way of pronunciation.
On the next edition of the SW encyclopedia the author only has to work a little, and add to each word the phonetic transcription, like on english/spanish - spanish /english dictionary. He has to ask all the authors of comics and books, this is the most difficut part, but it´s workable.
Do you know what I´m talking about? Phonetic Transcription is an international rule that we can use, no speakers of english, to learn how to pronunciate better english.
THIS IS THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM!

Hi Spewey.
In Spain they changed the pronunciation of "LEIA" on each film.
Who cares? I do, i don´t know wich is the wrong or right way.

Peoples accents can change, but it could be corrected with a perfect phonetic transcription.
And there´s another theme, the double meanings of some names, Chewbaka (The one who chews tobacco)?or Darth Vader (Dark Father)?

Whith the phonetic transcription of the author we will know if "Jacen" is like Jason.

That´s the problem, only the creator of the character knows how to pronunciate it.
So, how cuold we ask him which is the correct way?

You could try asking him. I'm sure Timothy Zahn has an email and a mailing address. Authors don't get as much fan mail as people like George Lucas and Sammy Sosa, so there's a better chance that he'll respond. I've always pronounced it "Kar-day."

As far as Talon goes, since his ship is called the "Wild Karrde", I'm assuming it's pronounced "card."

Yes, since Wild Karrde was meant to be a pun (as are the names of all Karrde's ships), his name would be pronounced as Card.
