Mayzie and I discussed this last night, I had a debate w/ an ex gf of mine about paying too much to be 'beautiful". It all boils down to the fact that her argument was that paying to be classy and trendy gives her confidence, while my argument was that such confidence is shallow and chicanery and that anyone who has to spend money to be accepted has no idea of what true acceptance is like.

She basically called me an a-hole and that I wouldn't know about such things because I am not in her position and have not experienced what it's like to have a $100 haircut and the confidence that goes with it and I am self-centered and should crawl out of my hole. :p

What? $100 just for a haircut!? No way! :O

I pay $20 for getting my hair straight, and $40 for getting it cut and dyed, and I think that's all my hair needs. I spend money on hair products and all that stuff, but $100 just for a haircut... No thank you, I can pay for the plane and the hotel for a weekened in London with that money...

Hmmm, not really the same thing, because I only get my hair straight like once or twice a year, and I only spend the $40 if I get it cut and dyed :p

$100 just for a cut and style? No coloring or any other process? Seems a bit excessive. Especially if she has it cut once a month. Who's cutting her hair? Vidal Sassoon?

But, if she's willing to pay that much to go to a particular hairstylist she likes, it's fine with me. It can be very difficult to find someone who cuts your hair just the way you like it. It's her money. She can spend it any way she likes.

btw, SSM. Sounds like your ex knows you pretty well. ;)

Well who is the one who got a $100 haircut?

I see why she is your ex. ;)

For a hundred dollars, my CUT hair better be able to sing, dance, and fix me breakfast.
Are you kidding me?
A hundred dollars?
Yeh, uh-huh, sure.
I don't think so friend. Shallow is right, except for the pockets. Your pockets better be deeper than the Marianas Trench if you're blowing a hundred dollars a pop for a haircut.
Wait, wait. It gives you self-confidence? A hair cut? Am I missing something?
Where is that salon, I'll make an appointment now! If you're blowing a hundred dollars at a time on a haircut because you swear that it gives you a hundred dollars worth of self-confidence, then you need to realize that, sugar, you always gonna be ugly to somebody.
And I am thoo.

And to top it off, she stated I wasn't being realistic that some people would pay for those types of haircuts. BTW, she, herself is a stylist. Why is she paying for a haircut?

She also stated that she gets mad that her fiancee goes to Pro Cuts to get a haircut as well. I told her that I toasted a beer for him. ;)

For the record, I agree with you who say it is shallow. Indeed.
If what you get from a hundred dollar hair cut is what you think is confidence, then it is shallow, and fleeting.
Inevitably, there will be a time when that which you hold most dear will be out of your reach and unattainable. Where do you get your sense of worth from? A hair cut? Whatever will you do when the time comes that you cannot afford that hundred dollar hair cut?
If you are rooted in something so fleeting, if you get your sense of worth and value from something that may not always be there, then what will you do when that something is gone?
The only answer is within you, you must reach deeper and find a deeper well of self respect and confidence. An indomitable spirit will never arise from a salon chair, friend. And unconquerable courage will never be found in the more slender wallet following a hundred dollar hair cut!
