Once the gun was unloaded, nothing was stopping the two guys(one of whom just killed the bear) from reassembling it and telling her 'we NEED this, dingbat'. I'm just puzzled how everyone(except that girl, the Doc, the weird backgammon guy, and the Korean guy) has become sheep all of a sudden I guess, it doesn't feel right to me. It feels too convenient, too contrived.

I guess I can see how they were gambling on the transceiver, but that thing didn't even work when they brought it back, so how come they would gamble that not only could someone fix it, but they would actually then use it to get rescued? See, this story is counting on too many coincidences, I know(based on season 1 of Alias) that they can do better in the storytelling.

true, maybe more will be explained later. Alias leaves a lot unanswered. Sometimes it's never answered sometimes it's answered a ways down the road.

I LIKE this show, I know my comments might look like I don't. It's just it feels like a show that is really cool sometimes, then makes you scratch your head going 'huh?" every now and then. I'd like to see it kick @ss the way Alias did back in its first season.

true. I thought alias was pretty good in season 2 and just ok in seaon 3. It's still my fave show because even when alias isn't on par its far above the rest. :)

One thing they should add to the show:

put the "number of days stranded" after the LOST logo appears.

uh.... what the heck was a polar bear doing on that island? and how about that mayday message in french?!
...here's my weird theory (anything's possible, right? ;) )
16 years and 5 months or however long it's been since that message started looping, a plane carrying a french circus crashed there, and some of the animals, like lions, tigers, and elephants, mutated into whatever killed the pilot ;\

...and saturday night starting at 8pm EST ABC is re-showing the first two episodes :D :D :D :D

My guess is that Kate is actually innocent.

remember she put the oxygen mask on the Marshal? So I guess she is not a hardcore criminal. I bet she is involved with fraud or something to that extent. I guess she doesn't like guns.

i think she put the oxygen mask on the Marshal because she figured that if she didn't and he died she'd also be blamed, and possible charged and tried for his death in addition to whatever else she did

The show's premise is a standard cliche; lost on an island, who would you bring and who could you trust?

You know a criminal is on board the plane, can you trust them?
We've come to a realization that our electronics expert fought for Iraq in Gulf War I, and the events obviously take place in our present day, could the mindset allow one to trust him?

Do you trust a Korean man who seems to spite everyone else and take food from him knowing that he might have picked fish or other elements that are possibly poisonous?

The looping message and the polar bear give me the feeling that the plane did not go through turbulence, but a possibility of an alternate universe or time travel. Someone else experienced this reality and their message has been broadcast for 16 years. Perhaps due to some electronic manipulation by means of the "distortion" is why it is still around.

That's a good idea.

I'm glad they're going to re-run both episodes on Saturday. There were a lot of things in both shows I missed. :(

whoooo - WEEE!

Things getting REAL good now ;)

*** CAREFUL - Speculative SPOILERS follow ***

So 16+ yrs ago, a team of French scientists came to the island to do experiments on animals. Can you say "Jurassic Park"?? The animals rebelled killing all the scientists leaving only one who set up the distress call. And who knows whether she is still alive?!

The preview for next week spoiled the question, "how much longer will it take for the others to find out Kate is the convict?!" ... although, when it became clear that *shrapnel-dude" was the US Marshall, I guess it couldn't be a secret much longer.

Here's my prediction: Lots of island exploring, finally locating the scientific outpost/laboratory. Various characters get killed off by monster(s). Excellent character development the whole way ... :D

One would think that after 16 years, either a search team would have gone out, or that the distress call would have stopped broadcast. Who would continue counting the iterations? Any search agency, Red Cross or military would have searched the island, discovered the stress call or source thereof and stopped the actual transmission.

Who is on the other end counting the iterations? That's the question that should be asked.

I like my alternate universe theory.

Besides using every cliche in the history of movies I think its a pretty awesome show.
When the team allowed Kate to dismantle the gun, ...well let's just say I dont think they're the brightest lightbulbs in the pack. I mean, they just killed an extremely vicious polar bear(i personally think that there might be some genetic modification going on. The bear didnt look quite right)that they concluded Was Not the one that killed the pilot and they reasoned that the one who did kill him was even larger. To me, destroying their only weapon just screams Stupid. But despite the fact that even my mom(who is not much of a tv watcher) can foresee the next plot twist, I am definitely tuning in for the next episode.

Regarding folks who think the show is full of plot holes and the characters are STUPID:

Name me a show that was perfectly realistic.

... eh? hmmm...what's that DEAD SILENCE I'm hearing...???

thought so ... ;) :D
