WHOA! Anyone whatch tonight? That was a very trippy episode. Very Twilight Zone-ish. I'm most intruiged by the man Jack saw towards the end. I kind of figured Locke wasn't able to walk before the crash but, it was still a crazy twist!

whoa!!!!
best episode by far.
the boar thing at the beginning hella freaked me out. When that dude shined the light and all you could see were the eyes. Damn, that was thrilling
and then you got that monster thing again. Can't wait to find out what it is.
The ending was just amazing.
my fav characters are Locke, the pregnant chick (I dig her accent..haha), and the blonde sister who looks like Charlize Theron

I liked watching Buffy, Angel, Xfiles, and 24 so it's not like I'm unable to suspend disbelief, but this show is insulting to my intelligence.
***spoilers***
They ran out of food, they clearly said that. So what do they do? Build a bonfire while totally depending on Locke and his crew(one of which is a girl) to get them a pig. No mention of Polar bear meat sitting there for the taking, HUNDREDS of pounds of Polar bear meat! No, they show no attempt whatsoever to scavenge anything for themselves, even that bit of fishing was only done to impress the girl, who wanted to impress her brother. The Iraqi Republican Guard guy presumably has skills that can be used to hunt the pigs, does he go? No of course not, that would make sense.

Plus the nonsense of the dog barking and no one can figure out why. Uh, could it be that he's barking at the FRICKIN' CREATURES that come out every night?!?!?! Duh. Maybe it's just me, but the second my dog(when I had one) goes off for no apparent reason like that, it's because there's SOMETHING around that shouldn't be. I wouldn't be all 'why is he barking?' "I don't know.".
Too bad, because I could use a show to kill time between now and when 24 comes back.

The meat would be spoiled and rotten by then. And sometimes my dog barks and there's nothing around, she just thinks she heard something, and as soon as I open the door and she takes a wiff of the air, she stops, realizing that there's nothing there.
Anyway, I thought the episode was great. Much better paced than last week.

Dude(channeling Hurley here), you can use the Polar bear meat to lure the piggies into a trap, a pit or a knife ambush. Be alot easier than wandering through the jungle where the giant thingies can get you.

I'm thinking that they better find an alternative food source like fruit or coconuts, because they aren't going to be able to survive just relying on hunting animals. I wonder what condition Locke had, could have been psychosomatic. Certainly anyone who was in a wheelchair for 4 years is not going to be able to stand up and walk since his leg muscles would have been atrophied.

About the polar bear meat- I don't think they had the tools to cut up the polar bear and bring back meat when they first killed it (I think it would be too big to drag.) Also, we don't know how far away from the beach they were when they encountered the polar bear. It's unlikely that it was just a few yards into the jungle. It was probably a couple hours walk. And I don't know about you but, I'm not going to spend a bunch of time cutting up a bear with blood all over my hands in a jungle inhabited by some huge and unknown creature. There are other ways to get food (fishing). I wouldn't waste my time on the bear.

Groundflier, you are watching this show assuming that the characters should be doing what you would do in the situation, and that's just not the case. The show isn't even saying the characters are making the RIGHT or most intelligent choices but, these are the choices their making. I don't know about you but, I would rather watch a show where the characters are making mistakes (like real people inevitably would) and get themeselves into trouble, instead of always making the right move and sitting safely on the beach...

I think you guys are looking at this show in a much to logical way. The great thing about it is there is no explanation to why Locke can walk again. None. It only makes us wonder even more what is going on with that island. It is obviously very strange. The miracle Locke experienced just makes it stranger...

For a food source, why not eat all the dead bodies? That would last a long time.

agreed.
The first thing that's gonna be on their mind is "WTF is a polar bear doing here"......not, "let's eat this yummy looking bear"
later on they realize they need food, which now means that the polar bear is probably currently resting in the giant beast's stomach.

First of all, I'm pretty sure that pigs are herbivores, that is, they don't eat meat. Second, what if the meat instead attracted those monsters, which apparently do eat meat?
I think Sark is right, there's nothing logical about the show, and it should not be looked at realistically. First of all, you've got giant monsters that lift people off the ground and spit them into trees. Second, a polar bear lives on the tropical island. Next, there's a recording that has gone on for 16 years, and it's in French. Also, the doctor sees a guy on a hill who isn't there a second later.
Locke being able to walk despite his condition and atrophy is yet another one of these impossible things that the island makes possible.

Pigs are herbivores huh? So they were munching on the veggies in the fuselage of the airplane? I thought they were munching on the corpses, which is partly what prompted the action to dispose of the bodies.
The survivors KNOW the creatures don't eat meat because A) the pilot was NOT eaten, not even partly and B)in case no one has noticed, the one thing the creatures haven't done is come down to the beach and eat anyone, alive or dead, even though there were corpses laying around everywhere.
Yes, this COULD be a case where the island is some sort of place where the rules of logic have been altered. That's cool, I can go with that. But why can't the show's writers give us some indication of that. The Xfiles was as twisty and turny as they get, never giving a straight answer, yet I always had enough info to know the 'rules' of what was going on.

Lost hasn't found that balance yet. For instance, why did the father ask the Korean woman(who he can't even talk to) to watch his kid, when there's about 44 other people to choose from who could understand his request and babysit? Is it too much to expect a tiny clue as to why he did that?
