Kate is the ONLY reason I watch this crap, yes I said crap.

Two reasons I say that ****spoilers****

Somehow, someway, we don't find out what's up with Kate, what she did. That is just plain lame. What, did she kill Kennedy or something? Cough it up already.

That dude who is so bad@ss he killed a polar bear with a pistol, he shoots the dude in the chest to put him out of his misery? C'mon, I mean REALLY! Even for a fantasy show, that's asking too much for the audience to buy.

There's alot more but why belabor the point, this is poorly written. It says alot about how bad television drama is when this is enough to excite people.

I thought there were too many commercials tonight, even more than usual, but maybe I'm imagining things.

And the show moved too quickly anyway. Not much was resolved. The dog was found, and we know we won't find out what Kate did, but it seemed like that was it.

I did like seeing that jerk/racist guy get sobered up like that, though.

And what chased the kid's dad through the jungle? It sounded like a big cat, like a lion or tiger.

And the previews of the people hunting looked interesting, but we saw those scenes in the sneak peek last week. Will it actually happen on the next episode?

Groundfier, if there is so much wrong with the show, why are you still watching it? It would be nice to find out what Kate did but, they can't reveal everything too early on or what is the point in watching it. And I'm sure that the jerk guy thought he would kill the Marshall by shooting him in the chest at that close of range........he was aiming for the heart. Besides, he doesn't seem all that bright anyways. Compared to a lot of shows that are on, LOST explains the characters action pretty well and there is always room for interperitation on why they do the things they did. And they did tell people (or at least some) about the pilot, and gave good reasons not to tell them that the transponder or whatever didn't work.

I'm still watching because of Kate.

I disagree about the reasons for not telling the others, there is NO good reason. So what if the others 'panic'? What are they afraid the others are going to do? They're stuck on an island for crying out loud! The others can't do anything even if they wanted to. It's just a cheap attempt to create 'suspense' by witholding what is very important information they all need to know.

Here's a good reason to tell the others: The sooner everyone knows they are NOT getting rescued anytime soon, the sooner everyone starts working to gather food, water, build shelters, hunt down those 'creatures', etc- all the things you need to do to survive on that island. Right now, there's still people on that island who think they about to be rescued.

The guy was good enough at shooting to kill a bear, brave enough to stand his ground against the bear, resourceful enough to FIND the gun in the first place, yet stupid enough to shoot someone he wanted to put out of his misery in the chest and not the head? C'mon, who among us in that position would NOT shoot the guy in the head? You want to kill someone, you shoot him in the head, everyone knows that.

For all we know he just pointed and shot the bear, not actually knowing what to aim for. It could have been luck. As for the marshal, I talked to some friends after the show and they said they would have aimed for the heart too.

I know what you're saying about them keeping the truth secret, but if I were on the island with them I'd be against sharing the information as well. It could cause a panic, and that would be bad because they would split up. They have to stay together in order to survive. If they split up they might stay apart, then they would claim different parts of the island for themselves. And when other people went into their territory, it could lead to fighting, which could lead to death. It would be like a small war. It might sound unbelievable, but when people are scared and feel alone, they do crazy things.

Hehe, I wouldn't mind seeing a war on the island between the survivors.

Here's a question: what do you say(if you're one of the people who knows what's REALLY going on) when the others realize no rescuers are coming? "Uh, we were gonna tell you this before but we decided to treat you like children and not say anything. It was for your benefit, I assure you."?

I mean, at some point even an idiot is going to realize "hey, we've been on this island for X amount of days/weeks and haven't seen so much as a jet flying in the distance".
Then those people will never trust you or listen to you again, and THAT will split everyone into separate groups.

Here's another reason not to lie: there's too many darn people involved in the lie for it to be depended on. What happens if Racist dude decides to make a power play and tell everyone "Hey, the Doc, Iraqi dude, and Kate here are deceiving all of you, here's the REAL situation..."? Now Racist dude has the trust of the others and the power that comes with that as their leader.

I like the idea of this show, but I believe they are relying too much on contrived situations to generate suspense. I think all the elements are there(giant creatures, 16yr old message in French, 48 people stuck on an island) for a wild ride, they don't need the cheesy stuff.

i actually agree with the desicion not to tell the others that they're not going to be rescued, it would cause panic, and what would they do? who knows? that's the problem, when people lose hope (yeah i'm parphrasing the Iraqi, cause i agree with the line) it's not a good thing, you could have everything from suicides, to anarchy, to all out war... which is the last thing they need, seeing as they are stuck on an island, and there's some sort of creature out there that enjoys a snack that tastes like human... their best chance for survival, is to stay together and work together as if they're going to be rescued, otherwise they might as well all die right now..

...i thought that's what they started doing after the hike group got back? and we know they go hunting in the next episode (yell at ABC for the spoilers...)

and there are people who may die of old age on that island, still thinking they're going to be rescued, and would believe it even if you told them every single day that there was no rescue coming...

The guy was good enough at shooting to kill a bear,
with how many bullets??? a lot... five or six...

brave enough to stand his ground against the bear,
i think it was more of a reflex to pull out the gun and start shooting than bravery

resourceful enough to FIND the gun in the first place,
not too difficult
"Oh hey, look, there's a body, and whoa, there's a gun on the body, I think I'll take it."
i'm sure he didn't have to look very hard

yet stupid enough to shoot someone he wanted to put out of his misery in the chest and not the head? C'mon, who among us in that position would NOT shoot the guy in the head? You want to kill someone, you shoot him in the head, everyone knows that.
that's what i thought... but he didn't so... *shrugs*
anyway the Marshal is dead

I've been watching this and I think it's a great show... but my question is...

If they "knew" the food resources were getting low... why not go cut that bear up? A bear that big would have feed the group for at least a week... And acording to the time line of the show... it seems its only been a day or so... the meat is probably still good...

Even them Not knowing resuce wasn't coming its always best to be prepared right? An opportunity for food presented itself and they passed on it.
