The Medium Space Transport is one of the most common types of starship for the Rebels at Endor, yet they don't have any waeponry and would seem to be easy pickings for the Imperial Fleet. What do you think the reasoning was for having these ships at the battle?

I believe that the Medium Space Transports have pretty heavy shielding. Perahpes they were there to draw fire away from the small fighter ships that were meant to penitrate the Death Star

I dunno...resupply ships, maybe? ?:| It was the final, epic, all-or-nothing battle anyway, so they might as well be there. ;)

Ah yes, the GR - 75 medium transport. It's the one that escapes from Hoth as the ion cannon unloads on a Star Destroyer. The only job they seemed to perform is troop and personnel transportation, possibly supplies also. Why they would be at the Battle of Endor is odd, as they were part of the fleet, but surely moving them out of harms way is the smarter option. Although they do have laser turrets and could handle some fighters if attacked.

And you must remember, the Rebels had to improvise every inch of the way. I would not be suprised (I would actually be suprised to not hear of this) to hear of the Alliance and their technicians and mechanics regularely strapping off kilter weaponry and guns to the sides of their ships, or transports in this manner. So just because the ship originally was weaponless, dosen't mean the rebels kept it this way.

My theory is those ships were sent as reinforcement ships for the Battle on Endor to help Han and company in the ground battles because otherwise they're basically useless up there.

They are for transporting people and probably have medics on board to help people wounded in battle.
