What's your opinion on how the Star Wars universe came to be?

Personally I believe it's some sort of alternate universe. Although I'm not sure what George Lucas intended when he said "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...", I think it's a little odd to take these words strictly as fact.

What do you think?

Well, it simply means that George Lucas not only believes that there is intelligent life otu there, but there is super advanced life far away from our solar system

I do realize that some of you may think that as stictly fact... but it doesn't make any sense!

Why are there HUMANS that speak english on different planets? I think it's unlikely that humans could develop AND speak english, in a literal galaxy far far away.

It means "Once apon a time" or in other words
a fairy tale is coming next.

While having the English language develop in another galaxy seems unlikely, why not question Lucas for having starships traveling at light speed? Anyone who's ever taken a physics class knows that anything which possesses matter cannot travel at light speed, or anywhere close to light speed for that matter. IMPOSSIBLE. Remember, this is science fiction.

I think you misinterperate my question.

I mean if there were some way to fit the star wars universe so that it could some way actually exist, is it possible no matter how improbable that it very well could alongside our own universe?

Yes, it would be very possible for the Star Wars Universe to exist with ours, because our Universe never ends. It is constantly expanding. If the SW Universe was on the other side of the Universe from us, it would take over 15 Billion years, traveling at light speed, for someone from SW to contact our Universe.

I think the reason they speak english and look like humans is because if they didn't we'd be watching alien gibberish.

My chemistry teacher (who is slightly nuts) is convinced that eventually we will be able to see the Death Star blow up Alderaan through the Hubble Telescope.

Um... that's possible but to clarify, when I say universe I mean "reality", or dimension. Einstein's Relativity states that anything that could happen does happen in other realities (this explanation is slightly simplified).

Knowing when or in what galaxy SW took place in would ruin some of the magic. It's not meant to be taken literally. It's the same as 'Once upon a time...'

Basically when this Galaxy had Dinosaurs on Earth, that is when the Star Wars Galaxy takes place and which Galaxy you ask? Well there are a lot of them, so its one of them.

And dont disregard Star Wars as science-fiction until you have visited every galaxy in the entire universe, okay?

Plus, he'd have to create quite a few languages for all those species of aliens he created. :)

Then you'd also have subtitles a little too much for a film that isn't actually a foreign film. :)
