It has been mentioned before that the Empire resembles the 3rd Reich. The uniforms. etc. Will we see the corantion of Palpatine as Emperor and will he give a speech in front of thousands of mindless follwers all the while waving his arms and having his eyes roll back in his head to the point that he actually looks like his is insane with power. I think that a scene in which The Emperor stands in front of thousands or more giving a speech could go along way in creating a hatred of the character that we are supposed to dislike as well as give us a view of how completely in control he was.

continued The Empire was not built in a day and it doesn't stay in power for as long as it does with just one man. Sure The Emperor is the big Kahuna, but he must take his views to a wider population , so that it gets a very wide acceptance. Only years later do people begin to figure out that what he is doing is wrong and corrupt and thus the rebellion starts out. I am not going to sit here and say that all Germans were bad, but they pretty much followed Hitler because of a promise of something better. Only later did they realize the measure in which he tried to achieve those promises.

OK I'll admit I wasn't serious about The Emperor acting like Hitler in the delivery of his speeches, but in the effect I was. At one point Hilter held the German people in the palm of his hand by telling them what he wanted them to hear. He gave them pride in their country at the expense of belittling other races. Still at that point in time it rallied the German people together in such a way that the events of WWII could be carried out. I see the same thing happening in either Episode II or III. How else does he come into power. I doubt he just stands up one day and tells everyone that they will all bow down to him. The people need a reason to put him in that position.

In my original post elsewhere someone mentioned that they see it as the Emperor ############## while Vader will be like Himmler in destroying the Jedi like Himmler eliminated Jews. When you really think about it there are some amazing resemblances between the two.

I guess that works, although I once read about some history event that reminded me of Star Wars, but I forgot what it was.

Actually the uniforms more closely resemble those worn by German army officers in World War I. Very smart. But the politics resemble the Third Reich as all power rests with the Emperor himself, there's no constitution, little order of succession, everything falls apart without the Emperor.

The German army I believe were also called Stromtroopers. Also, in some of the novels, it is suggested that the Emperor had wiped out whole planets in mass genocide. Plus, the symbol choosen by the Emperor is probably some symbol of power just like the swastica was a symbol of power for the Nazis.

Originally, Stormtroopers served as propaganda soldiers when Hitler campaigned under the Socialist Party for Chancellor. Later, those same people were employed as either normal troops (never called stormtroopers) or SS soldiers (Hitler's elite). Stormtroopers remained under the Reich, only to continue promoting the propaganda. They never engaged in battle as a "stormtrooper" unit.
I do believe that GL modeled Palpatine's background similar to Hitler's, even down to "religious" ideals. Hitler had been involoved with the occult and other esoteric knowledge. Palpatine's equivalent would be his skills in the dark side of the Force.

(cont'd)
Hitler used many symbols and methods used by occultists in his reign. The Swastika is an ancient symbol that Tibetans used to represent life and hope and fertility. Only that Hitler used the inverse drawing of it for the Nazi symbol. It is said that a symbol inversed, invokes it's negative energies (hence some people uses crosses upside down to represent evil, etc.). Thus, anyone that saw the inversed swastika, knew his intent.

No coincidence, fact. Thus why GL modeled Palpy after Hitler. What better Empire to model a fictional empire than the most recent attempt at empire? There were also Roman influences as well, but all of history since Rome has modeled itself from Rome. But, then, Rome modeled after Greece, etc, etc, etc.

Don't know if you care or not, but Reich in German means Empire. Similar? You decide.

George Lucas is brilliant! What a better way to teach history to the new and growing Star Wars fandom.
